Florence is famous amongst tourists and scholars for her glorious artwork, cultural heritage, and the major role she played in the Renaissance and Humanist movements. All these facets combine to make this one of the most glorious cities in the world. Florence is a great place for honeymooners as the city's flair most definitely has a hint of romance in it. Florence is particularly famous for its leather goods, and many workshops have set up business within the city. Visitors can be sure to find a range of genuine items at any number of shops and markets, from leather jackets and handbags to shoes and belts.

Florence is not the choice of those seeking a seaside resort or a holiday with small children. Older children, well disciplined, and well prepared, can benefit from accompanying their parents on a tour of the museums, palaces, and churches, but interest for most youngsters will rapidly wane in the crush of crowds and intense heat of the small city. Florence is extremely touristy, but within the city center the least touristy areas are going to be on the south side of the Arno River (the Oltrarno). It is more residential but is still in the historical area of the city. Florence is called the capital of arts; according to statistics produced by UNESCO, 60% of the world's most important works of art are located in Italy and approximately half of these are in Florence.

Florence is easy reachable by Car, by train, by bus and by airplane. As Florence is known as the birthplace of the Renaissance it is home to some a tremendous amount of great artistic works.

A good reference point for navigating your way around Florence is its central train station, Santa Maria Novella, although the Duomo is pretty hard to miss. Florence is a mecca for students and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is a rare combination of a Renaissance city of grand palazzos and artistic treasures, plus a bustling modern city with terrific entertainment.

Florence is also central to Italy’s present. It is three hours by train to the region of Lombardy, the humming center of Italy’s economic miracle and a stepping-off place for the ski slopes and lakes of the Alps. Florence is centrally located along the major north-south motorway links. From A1-highway take the “Firenze Sud” or the “Firenze Nord” exit depending on your travel itinerary, then follow the indications for “Firenze Centro” and then “Santa Maria Novella” railway station. Florence is small and compact, a walker’s city. Many of the sights are within a 30-minute walk and some are just a leisurely stroll apart.

Florence, for many reasons, is the ideal place to learn Italian or to improve your knowledge of the language. Florence is a city that lives and breathes art and its well worth all the troubles with the excess of people that you can find there at all times. I would suggest investigate as much as you can before travelling to Florence so that you know what you are looking at and the whole artistic and historical values of the wonderful masterpieces that you would be looking at.

Florence is the home town of a grand master in Italian language. It is also the city of Michelangelo; a famous art genius and Donatello who is renowned worldwide for his masterpieces and globally recognized artworks. Florence is a small town. It is possible to walk from one end of the city to the other in thirty minutes.
